757. Cranes - Forever

I've had this for a while which is disturbing because I don't really like it. The Cranes have what I call the '4AD' sound - sure that label had everything from The Pixies, to Belly to The Cocteau Twins, which all sound very different, but I always associated them with a certain sound. The Cranes (who are not on 4AD) have that sound, which isn't bad, but they also have a vocalist that sounds like a bird... I know, not very eloquent, but true.

756. MEDICINE - THE BURIED LIFE

Chad and I walked into Sound Splash (a used record store in west palm) one day (like many others) and wanted to get something new, yet used of course, because we were broke... I heard a few seconds of the opening track to this and got it. He heard something for less than a minute and bought it too (not sure what it was)... anyway I've held onto it for unknown reasons. While I still like the opening track, and the cd isn't the worst thing I've ever heard, it's not worth keeping anymore... as I mentioned in my previous post there's no point in keeping something that isn't even half good.

755. MY BLOODY VALENTINE - LOVELESS

I love it when albums are near perfect... it reminds you of how much garbage there is out there and how little music you actually have to own to have a great collection (and no, I am not getting rid of all my cd/lp/tapes and simple keeping the best).

There's nothing to say about this release that you haven't heard before, so just go hear it.

754. My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything

Already self deprecating through the album's title, MBV might have had a bit of reason to be since they were clearly still figuring out their sound and footing with this release. It's pretty experimental and hit or miss - you can hear traces of what's yet to come mixing their melodic noise with pure pop, at times evoking the likes of Sonic Youth... it's eclectic and great, making 'Loveless' a natural yet monumental progression.

753. Lush - Lovelife

Not sure if Lush were saying 'we love life' or if they are talking about their 'love life' either way on this final release by the band they seemed to have come full circle, dropping the shoe gazing quality of their songs if you will for a more traditional song format, with a cleaner sound. Is it better? No, but it isn't bad either, and I respect the fact that they wanted to do something different.

752. LUSH - Split

I love epic songs of melancholy - sadness layered with liquor and goose bumps... I know I'm not making a lot of sense, but it will make sense if you just listen below.

751. Lush - gala

Gala was my first proper Lush album and I listened to it quite a bit - back in the day you were able to spend more time with a record than you can now. Sure I had more time since I was what, only 15? But you also didn't a new band coming out every day, new singles easily downloadble, etc... when you got a disc, and liked it, you took your time with it and really got into it. Regardless Gala was a great cd to get into - Vaughn's artwork is somewhat dated now, but held its own back then, the band was even more magical because you had no idea what they looked like and they sounded like a mix of My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins... ahh 1990.

750. Lush - Spooky

I can't have a category named 'lush life' without Lush... Sarah got me into these guys (and Cocteau Twins, MBV and so much more) and I think she even gave me this cd (she definitely gave me the next one)... anyway this thing is so old it's suffering from cd rot. i love Lush for a billion reasons (great label, great artwork, hot vocalist, layered fuzz, etc), and while Spooky is good, it's no Gala...

749. Cocteau Twins - BBC Radio Sessions

This isn't a bad release per se, it's just an unecessary one. The tracks aren't the bands strongest, but more importantly they sound almost exactly the same as the studio sessions which makes hearing them again redundant.
